Dreaming of a kid's room makeover? Stuck in a design rut and not sure where to start? We’ve called on talented Interior Designer to the stars and founder of Eklektik Studio, Joanna Landais, to inspire us with this year’s top trends in children’s decor. Read on for the lowdown on how to create an ‘on-trend space’ your little ones (and you) will love.
In the coming year, we will start to see a steady shift away from popular earthy palettes of light browns and sage greens associated with warm and soothing environments. Calming colour schemes are still very much a popular choice for many parents, however in 2024 this woodland inspired theme will be making space for the sunbaked Peach Fuzz trend.
Announced as colour of year by Pantone, Peach Fuzz is just like a warm hug, full of sweet shades of melba and nectarine - perfect for pairing with greys or with deeper tones of nursery wood. Wonderfully gender-neutral, peach can also be easily accessorised with floral accessories for a more feminine feel or paired with block colours such as browns and greens for a masculine look.
Hibou Home have the dreamiest collection of wallpaper designs to choose from, like this stunning Fleur in Peach/Dusky Blue that perfectly encapsulates this trend. Adding a comfy beanbag like this beauty from Nobodinoz will add an instant relaxed vibe to the surroundings too. Choosing furniture in a contrasting colour will help bring the whole theme together. Take a look at the iconic Juno cot from Sebra, available in natural wood, white and this gorgeous Mist Green version. And, this bedding set from Avery Row adorned with peaches is a no brainer. Sweet dreams.
A broader movement towards more expressive and bold children’s interiors is also starting to take shape. Moving away from spaces being designed for function, this trend embraces fun, creative elements which include injecting dialled-up vibrant hues or patterns around the room. Think coloured rugs, statement pieces such as sofas, oversized artwork and wall murals.
The key to mastering this trend is getting the balance just right. Backdrops should be predominantly neutral with pops of colour taking up not more than 10% of the room size. Colour combinations can be easily perfected by selecting colours of the same saturation across the board. As a rule of thumb, a horizontal selection of any 5 colours displayed on a paint chart will always work well together.
For the ultimate kids play paradise, this showstopper bed from Mathy by Bols is the stuff that dreams are made of. For a pop of colour, accessorise walls with the iconic mini wall rug from OYOY or this sweet alphabet poster from Sebra. For a final flourish, this amazing abstract rug from Lorena Canals adds texture and warmth, plus it's machine washable too!
As with most trends, there will always be an element of polarity where an opposing trend emerges simultaneously. In 2024, decorating themes will also embrace the rise of ‘parent-centric’ design - where parents balance their own style whilst catering to the needs of their little ones. This shift is building momentum as a new wave of sustainable living moves toward a more considered consumption of goods. A rise in repurposing existing furniture or opting for decor which can easily work in any other space is predicted, as we start to see more “adult-styled” nursery spaces.
This trend can show up in patterns, light fittings or smaller decor items such as brass finishes, cushions or a collection of vintage art. For a child-friendly finish, a statement mobile (also making a big come back) or a statement changing mat, will pull this look together - perfect for creating a room with personality.
This statement lampshade from CuddleCo, with its natural rattan design, will fit seamlessly into any interior. Boucle has made a big comeback and is great for achieving an elevated look. This nursing chair version will give nursery spaces a design led, grown up feel. Select statement pieces like this adorable felt baby mobile from Sebra and this stylish changing mat from Ralphie Bear to add extra interest to practical elements.
Following the lead on ‘adult styled’ nurseries, it’s no surprise that the idea of decorating children’s bedrooms with nostalgic characters from their own childhood has resurfaced. This growing trend incorporates densely distributed patterns in the form of wallpapers, soft furnishings and other decorative pieces - connecting a vintage vibe with ‘dirty’ neutrals.
Achieving a vintage-inspired theme can be a little tricky to master. By sticking with the simple rule of mixing vintage patterns with modern furniture pieces, this will ensure a cohesive and trendy design that’s guaranteed to impress parents, kids and visitors alike.
This classic cot bed has real vintage appeal, mixed with modern craftsmanship - sweet dreams guaranteed. Add soft furnishings in luxurious textures like this striking velvet moon cushion from Nobodinoz and statement pieces like the Seaside bookshelf with hook from the iconic Oliver Furniture range. A retro inspired wallpaper makes a beautiful backdrop. Take a look at this Swan in pale rose print that evokes memories of bygone days.
This ever-so-popular trend of half-panelled walls is slowly being replaced by a number of finer-looking alternatives. Decorative trims, beaded borders or scalloped picture frames are set to take 2024 by storm.
Relatively easy to install, trims can be painted the same colour as the wall, for a more playful look. Alternatively, a contrasting colour, such as yellow or red, would work just as well.
Add statement soft furnishings in co-ordinating colourways, paired with decorative elements made from natural or painted wood, to help bring the room together.

Fitted or freestanding storage options can be cleverly used in all types of spaces to conceal toys, baby supplies and clothing, whilst still retaining a stylish aesthetic.
